The Standard Mental Health Course provides adults with essential knowledge, practical skills, and the confidence needed to identify and effectively support someone—such as a colleague, friend, family member, or community member—who may be experiencing mental health difficulties or a mental health crisis.
Participants will learn to identify common signs and symptoms of mental health problems, understand how to respond effectively as these challenges emerge or worsen, and become familiar with available treatments and support resources.
Guided by a practical and evidence-based action plan, participants develop skills to sensitively approach and engage someone they're concerned about, initiate supportive conversations, provide initial assistance and guidance, and encourage the person to seek appropriate professional or additional support.
Upon successful completion of this training, participants become accredited Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders). MHFAiders gain the ability and confidence to offer valuable mental health information and timely support when it's most crucial.
The Standard Mental Health First Aid course is also available in blended formats, combining online learning with either face-to-face or additional online sessions. These blended formats offer content tailored specifically for workplace environments or community settings, allowing participants flexibility in choosing their ideal training scenario.
This course has received recognition from Suicide Prevention Australia as an effective, safe, and high-quality training program for suicide prevention.

This specialised course prepares adults with the essential understanding, practical abilities, and confidence to identify and support friends, family members, or other adults aged 65 and older experiencing mental health issues or facing a mental health crisis.
Designed particularly for those caring for, working with, or supporting older adults, participants will gain valuable knowledge about common mental health challenges among older populations, including identifying early signs and symptoms. They’ll also learn effective strategies for responding to signs of emerging or deteriorating mental health, as well as becoming familiar with available treatment options and supports.
Participants practice applying a structured, evidence-based action plan, enabling them to confidently initiate sensitive conversations, provide initial assistance, share appropriate information, and encourage older adults to access professional services or additional supports.
Upon completing the course, participants become certified Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAiders). These MHFAiders gain vital skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to provide timely mental health assistance and guidance when it’s most critical.
Additionally, this course has been formally recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia for its effectiveness, quality, and safety as a suicide prevention training program.
